We have travel agents available to book your entire trip. Some of these agents are right in your own country. Please contact our office for more information regarding a participating travel agent in your country. If you do not speak English, a translator will be provided to you for the duration of your stay.
As an International patient you are required to stay in the area for 7-10 days after your surgery. Many of our patients choose to stay at the beautiful Short Hills Hilton Hotel. We can help you arrange you stay in the area, or you are welcome to set up the reservations yourself. We do have several other hotels in the immediate area that are available for your stay.
Private duty nurses are available for all the hotels we deal with, however, we find that they are not necessary.
After your operation, the Dietitian, Metabolic Specialist Physician, Bariatric Nursing Coordinator and Physical Therapist will see you. Those patients who choose to have the Gastric Bypass will be in the hospital for 2-3 nights. The LapBand is performed with an overnight stay so that the team can meet with you and review your instructions before you leave the hospital. LapBand patients are required to stay in the area for only 7 days while Bypass patients need to stay for 9 days. Lap Band patients will also be required to set up a regular follow up and adjustment schedule prior to their departure from the US. In some instances, we have contracted with local hospitals or physicians in your country, to provide easy access to adjustments.
After the surgery, you will have a class each day consisting of a 45min to 1hr lecture by:
1. Dietitian- How and what to eat after Bariatric Surgery.
2. Exercise Physiologist- How to exercise safely.
3. Nutrition/Metabolic Physician- Nutritional and Metabolic issues after weight loss surgery.
4. Nutritionist- How and what to cook after weight loss surgery.
5. Question/Answer session with the entire staff the day prior to your departure.
We do recommend that you find a Metabolic physician in your area for continued follow up. The alternative is to have your local physician perform the blood work and have a phone or internet consultation with one of our Metabolic physicians vs. travel to see us every 3-6 months for the first two years after your surgery and then annually there after
Some excursion packages are available for your stay after the surgery. If you are interested, please inquire prior to your departure to the USA. Packages include ticket and transportation fees. Lap Band patients are eligible for excursions after post op day #2 and Bypass patients are eligible for excursions after post op day #5. All excursions will take place after the morning lecture. The Broadway Show package will be a Matinee event.
